Zara is ready to be adopted, or more accurately, we are ready to adopt her out! She is one amazing dog and has served our rescue well. She is such a sweet girl always taking care of everyone else. We think she deserves to have her own family and be their special dog now.

We are in no rush to adopt her out, but if the right person or family comes along then we are happy to rehome her. 

Zara came to our rescue in September of 2013. She was about to be euthanized, but a fellow rescuer grabbed her before they could put her down (she was seriously next in line!). When we got Zara we were told that she had been in heat and the shelter didn't want to spend money fixing her because they were afraid she was going to be aggressive. The truth was that no one had even gone back to see if the dog was friendly, they were just going to kill her.

When she came to us we took her to a vet right away that assured us she would be ok to fix in a couple of weeks after her "lady parts" had finished their cycle. About a week later we took her back to the vet because it appeared that two of her nipples were enlarged. We were told she was experiencing a false pregnancy and that it would be better to push the date out a couple more weeks, to make the surgery easier on her body. The next week Zara delivered 4 healthy puppies that appeared to be Neapolitan Mastiff / Ridgeback mixes.

Zara was an amazing mommy and her puppies were adopted out. Zara has spent the time with our rescue helping the new rescues get settled in. She has such a gentle, loving, nurturing spirit. She helps tame the wild puppies, cleans and snuggles the frightened dogs, and plays with the rambunctious boys.

Now it's Zara's time to have a forever family, but this is a special dog so we are going to make sure that her talents are put to use. Zara has entered our Service Dog Training Program. She is going to make someone a very special service animal.
